• The Rotary Club of Darjeeling hosted the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) event from the 2nd of August till the 4th of August 2024, at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) was also the home for the delegates during the duration of their stay in Darjeeling.

    A total of 102 students, between the age group 15 & 23, from RID 3240 & RID 3292 from Guwahati, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik from India and Kathmandu & Biratnagar from Nepal took part in the 3 day event, making the RYLA a multi-district international event.

    Various sessions, viz., ice-breaking, interactive, public speaking and environment awareness were designed to hone the leadership qualities of each of the participating delegates. These sessions also encouraged the delegates to work together for the achievement of common goals. Other activities included wall climbing, talent hunt and cultural activities were a part of the programme to display the hidden talents of the students.

    Rtn. Debajit Goswami , RYLA district chair was the chief guest during the inauguration whereas Rtn. Amar Singh Rai was the chief guest on the final day while.

    While Babita Paul a delegate sponsored by Rotary Club of Guwahati West bagged the best RYLARIAN award, Venya Bajaj sponsored by Rotary Club of Guwahati Metro and Suyansh Mani Pradhan sponsored by Rotary Club of Kalimpong bagged the first and second runners-up award respectively.

    Rtn. Samir Singhal, the president of Rotary Club of Darjeeling, while congratulating all the participants for putting up a fantastic show, opined that the RYLA as a programme was an important initiative of Rotary to not just help in honing leadership qualities of the young participants, but also to act as a bridge to expose the future generations of our society to what Rotary was primarily about, Fellowship & Friendship. He also expressed his gratitude to all the members of the Rotary Club of Darjeeling for the time and energy devoted to make this event successful.
