Breastfeeding Week Celebration

On August 5, 2024, our Club, in association with the IAP Barak Valley Branch, organized an awareness program on the benefits of breastfeeding to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) at Nari Sikha Hospital, Silchar. The event saw a large attendance of new mothers, patients, and hospital staff.

Renowned pediatrician Dr. Sumit Das and Rtn Dr. Priyanka Deb addressed the audience, educating them on the benefits and proper techniques of breastfeeding. President Rtn Suramita Roy Podder also spoke, highlighting the social stigmas and superstitions that deter mothers from breastfeeding. She emphasized the health benefits of breastfeeding for both babies and mothers and stressed the importance of a mother's mental readiness to breastfeed, as this promotes the production of sufficient breast milk. She also noted that the health of the mother is crucial for the well-being of the child and called on family members to ensure the mother receives proper nutrition.

Nutritious food items such as apples, milk, and biscuits were later distributed among the mothers present.
