Heritage Tour

  • on 29th July 2024 Rotary Club of Digboi in association with India Tourism Guwahati , Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India and AVANI TRAVELS arranged a Heritage Tour of Digboi Oil Town for a 25 number team of students. They paid a visit to Digboi War Cemetery and then to Digboi Oil Museum. Digboi War cemetery was built to honour the soldiers who died during the second World War.This cemetery has about 200 burials mostly of British soldiers who laid down their lives during World War II .Digboi Oil Centenary Museum is a symbol for the fact that the first traces of oil were tracked in Assam. The Digboi Oil Refinery was the first oil refinery in India. The Discovery Well was the first commercially viable well in India and is located close to the museum.
    Next the children visited Adarsh Seuj Prakalpa where they were briefed about the history of the organic farm by Rtn Kishore Baruah and hands on demonstration given on organic pesticides by Rtn Santanu Roy and Sri Iqbal.
    President Rtn Dr Nirza Saikia gave an overview on health hygiene and hand washing.
    The trip ended with lunch . Rtn Purna Borah and Rtn Simi Dhanowar accompanied the students.
