RC Kalimpong conducted a LPG Safety Clinic in association with David Gas Distributors on 11/4/25 at the Rotary Centre. The target audience were the SHG (self help group) members. There was a tacit understanding that they in turn would disseminate the information and tips they learnt to their families, friends and the community at large. Nereus Mukhia, the proprietor of David Gas Distributors and also a Rotarylet, spoke eloquently on all the steps towards maintaining safety in the kitchen. He also explained what to do in case of a gas leak. One must NEVER switch on the lights if one smells gas at night. A spark could cause an explosion. One must remove the regulator and put on the safety cap and then take the cylinder to an open space. Of course one needs to open all the doors and windows to ensure cross ventilation before removing the cylinder. Also it's mandatory to change the gas hose every 5 years. He pointed out that at the bottom left of our gas receipts the date when a gas hose is last replaced is always mentioned. Also our stove must always be placed at a higher level than the cylinder. God forbid one uses what one's wearing to remove hot utensils from a burning stove. A split second wrong decision can be catastrophic. People use their saree's aachals... a big no no. Also please request your gas delivery man to break the seal and check the cylinder before accepting a refill. Not too many people do this. RC Kalimpong serves the community in a myriad ways and today's safety clinic was one of them. #rotaryclubofkalimpong #rotaryinternational #themagicofrotary #ServiceAboveSelf
