The journey began on December 5, 2024, upon landing in Guwahati, the delegates were welcomed with Assam’s traditional Gamocha. The day started with a visit to the Balaji Temple, followed by a delightful Assamese thali for lunch. They then traveled to Tezpur with our members and were warmly received at their place of accommodation. In the evening, everyone dined at a restaurant owned by the Immediate Past President's brother before resting and preparing for the program.
The official program commenced on December 6, 2024, with a visit to Agnigarh, a historical hill depicting the love story of Usha and Anirudh and the legendary war between Krishna and Shiva through intricate sculptures. This was followed by an exploration of Bamuni Hills, an archaeological site showcasing remnants of a temple and palace. Later, we visited Bhairavi Mandir, a significant spiritual site. Lunch was another delightful Assamese thali, offering a unique flavor of the local cuisine.
Post lunch, we visited the Koliabhomora Bridge, a landmark that once held the record as India’s longest bridge. Despite the fog hindering our sunset plans, we managed to capture memorable pictures. In the evening, we welcomed Rotaractors from RI District 3080 to their place of accommodation and later attended a local cultural festival. The night concluded with a captivating Raas event, depicting Lord Krishna’s life in an elaborate drama.
On December 7, 2024, the day began with a visit to India’s oldest Interact Club at Don Bosco School, followed by a trip to Mahabhairav Temple. Later, we revisited Agnigarh to explore its historical significance further. After lunch, the delegates returned to their place of accommodation for some rest. The evening was spent around a bonfire and a jamming session alongside Interactors, building camaraderie and enjoying lighter moments together.
On December 8, 2024, we visited Namghar, a sacred site for Assamese worship, followed by a Gurdwara where we participated in the community lunch, Langar. We then explored Rudhrpath, known for the footprint of Lord Shiva, and visited a hill dedicated to a young girl, Kanaklata, who sacrificed her life during the Quit India Movement. The day ended with a visit to a breathtaking sunset spot.
After sunset, the Rotary Club of Tezpur along with Rotaract club of Agnigarh organized a grand event for the delegates ,where several Interact and Rotaract clubs from the zone joined us. The talented Rotaractors showcased their singing and dancing talents and Interactors of Don Bosco performed a traditional Bihu dance and a folk orchestra, while. During this cultural exchange, Rotractors participated in letterhead exchanges with the clubs.
On December 9, 2024, even though the event had officially concluded, the members of Rotaract club of Agnigarh took the delegates to the famous Kamakhya Devi Temple, a revered spiritual site in Assam. We ensured a seamless conclusion to our delegates journey by dropping them off at the airport.
With this program we hoped to provide an enriching experience, offering a deep insight into Assam’s vibrant culture, fostering meaningful connections within the Rotaract community, and leaving us with unforgettable memories.
