In the Rotary year 2022-23, we have built a lotus pond in the premises of our Happy School. After waiting for a few days, the lotus pond started blooming under the supervision of our Happy School In-charge Rtn Dr Kamal Krishna Das. The school premises were filled with a festival of lotus flowers and lotus leaves. The aim was to save the endangered Indian Lotus through in-situ conservation, to make the school environment beautiful and to develop a proper idea of the aquatic plant lotus among the students.
This is our third year. Again, lotus leaves and lotus flowers have created a beautiful environment in the school. The rotary wheel next to the pond seems to have brought a different message to the area, students-teachers-guardians are all very happy. Guppy fish farming is going on in the said pond secretly to destroy mosquito larvae in this area prone to dengue and malaria. The occasional supply of lotus leaves in the mid-day meal of the boys has brought a different dimension.

This time, efforts are being made to get a very close variety of this species. Rtn Kamal has started the hybridization work in this regard since last year.

We renovated the pond yesterday in this environment month. All the teachers and students are very happy with this project. This is also our Rotary Visibility Project.
