Vocational Service Projects

  • Ongoing Permanent Vocational Service Projects of Rotary Club of Silchar

Rotary International has designated January as “Vocational Service Month,” a time when Rotary clubs worldwide emphasize the importance of vocational training, ethical professional practices, and service to the community. The Rotary Club of Silchar has been deeply committed to vocational service through several ongoing initiatives aimed at empowering individuals with skills, education, and employment opportunities. These projects play a crucial role in enhancing the self-sufficiency of the local population while upholding Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self.”

    Ongoing Vocational Training Programs

The Rotary Club of Silchar operates five major vocational training programs, catering to diverse skill sets and interests:
    1. Rotary Computer Literacy Centre – In today’s digital world, computer literacy is essential for employment. This training centre provides fundamental and advanced computer education to students and professionals, helping them secure better job opportunities.
    2. Rotary M. N. Kar Sewing School – This initiative empowers women and individuals from economically weaker sections by teaching sewing and tailoring skills, enabling them to start their own businesses or find employment in the garment industry.
    3. Rotary Beautician Course – Personal grooming and beauty services are in high demand, and this course provides vocational training in beauty and cosmetology, equipping students with the skills needed to become professional beauticians.
    4. Rotary Art School – Art has always been a medium of expression and livelihood. This school nurtures young talents by providing structured training in painting, sketching, and other creative arts.
    5. Rotary Dance School – Recognizing dance as both an art form and a potential career, this school offers training in various dance styles, enabling students to pursue careers in performing arts or dance instruction.

    Adult Literacy Centres

In addition to vocational training, the Rotary Club of Silchar also runs two adult literacy centres, focusing on educating illiterate adults. These centres help individuals gain basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills, improving their daily lives and enhancing their employment prospects.

Employment Through Ambulance and Mortuary Van Services

Beyond vocational training and literacy initiatives, the Rotary Club of Silchar provides direct employment opportunities through its essential services:
    • Ambulance Service – The club operates ambulance services, employing four drivers who ensure timely transportation of patients in need of urgent medical attention. This initiative not only provides livelihood to the drivers but also serves as a life-saving service for the community.
    • Mortuary Van Service – Understanding the need for dignified transportation of deceased individuals, the club runs two mortuary vans, employing two drivers. This service provides crucial support to grieving families and ensures respectful handling of the deceased.

    Impact and Significance

The vocational service initiatives of the Rotary Club of Silchar reflect Rotary’s commitment to empowering individuals through education and skill development. These projects:
    • Enhance employment opportunities by equipping individuals with practical skills.
    • Promote self-reliance by enabling beneficiaries to start their own businesses or secure stable jobs.
    • Support economic development by strengthening the local workforce.
    • Provide essential services to the community, ensuring better healthcare and social support.
