WORLD RHINO DAY

  • World Rhino Day is celebrated on September 22nd every year. It's a global awareness day dedicated to the conservation and protection of Rhinoceros.
    Rhinos are facing severe threats due to poaching, habitat loss, and climate change. Their horns are prized on the black market, leading to devastating consequences.

    There are five species of rhinoceros:

    1. Black rhinoceros
    2. White rhinoceros
    3. Indian rhinoceros
    4. Javan rhinoceros
    5. Sumatran rhinoceros

    *Conservation efforts:*

    1. Habitat preservation and restoration
    2. Anti-poaching patrols and law enforcement
    3. Education and community engagement
    4. Research and monitoring
    5. Rhino translocations and reintroduction programs.

    In an endeavour to support Rhino conservation, Rotary Club of Digboi, in association with Department of Zoology, Digboi College and NSS Unit, Digboi College organised a day long program in Golai No 4, L.P School, Barufutia village.
    A drawing competition with the theme “Rhino “ was held in three categories amongst children of the village. A health camp with primary focus in detection of anaemia, hypertension and diabetes was organised. Good number of asymptomatic hypertension and anaemic were detected and will be followed up in Digboi CHC. Common ailments like flu, gastroenteritis and dermatitis were also reported.
    A talk on Rhino habitat and conservation was delivered by Rtn Rajib Rudra Tariang. Finally the day ended with prize distribution and sing-song of NSS Theme Song by the students of the school.
